“But I will restore you to health and heal your wounds,’ declares the LORD, ‘because you are called an outcast, Zion for whom no one cares.’ (Jeremiah 30:17).
Many of us are longing for restorations in various areas of our lives. Among the number of prayers and desires we have, the greatest and the most urgent one is often the restoration of our health, especially physical wellbeing. It is quite natural for any human being to feel that way and work towards it. God has promised to the nation of Israel that He will restore them to healing. Though primarily it is to do with the spiritual healing and restoration of the nation, we may see it as God’s promise to heal the total person- body, soul and spirit.
1. Causes of Sickness and disease. Sickness of all kinds (physical or spiritual/mental/emotional etc.) are brought upon mankind since the Fall of Man and the consequences following the rebellious and selfish nature of man. When God made man in “His likeness and image”, there was no sickness attached to it. Adam and Eve were the crown of God’s creation and were given the rule over every living thing that moves on the earth. (Genesis 1:28).
The root cause of all sickness and curse is man’s separation from God’s communion and the loss of intimacy. Man lost the privileges and the purpose for which he was created and a vacuum has entered the human hearts. With the entrance of Satan in the Garden of Eden, and with the disobedience of man with his crafty scheme the world has been infected with sickness of all kinds, hopelessness and death! The source of sickness may be from the following:
* Sickness by natural causes, since the nature and environment is polluted.
* Sickness by evil spirits, since the powers of darkness is at work in the world.
* Sickness caused by our own foolish choices (not considering the weather conditions, not eating/drinking sensibly, lack of exercise etc.)
* Sickness, being infected by contacting another with an infectious disease.
But God, being merciful has not left mankind without a promise of re –connection, restoration and renewal (Genesis 3:15).
2. Conditions of Restoration and healing. ( 2 Chronicles 7:14). God is willing and seeking the restoration of people with healings and privileges. But He has set conditions before man/nation/church is restored to full health.
* “ If My people… shall humble themselves and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land.”
* Prophet Hosea calls us,” Come and let us return to the Lord; for He has torn, but He will heal us.” ( Hosea 6:1)
* Apostle James exhorts us to “confess your trespasses to one another and pray for one another that you may be healed. ( James 5:16)
3. Cry for healing and Restoration. Psalm 107:19-20 “Then they cry unto the LORD in their trouble, [and] he saved them out of their distresses. He sent his word, and healed them, and delivered [them] from their destructions.” There is a worldwide cry for healing and restoration. The Apostle Paul wrote to the Romans, “ For we know that the whole creation groans and labours with birth pangs together until now.” All the creation of God has been affected by the Fall of Man, and have come short of the glory of God. But the cry for restoration and healing will be a answered when the Lord makes all things new and the restoration is complete.(Revelation 21:5).
Let us continue to cry, trust in God and wait for the full restoration and healing of our bodies, of all that in mourning and the entire creation that has lost the original glorious state. He will restore you to health. Amen
